How your ride works

  1. Arrive and get fitted

We lend you shoes if yours aren't suitable, a waterproof phone case, and helmets. Helmets are required for riders under 18.

  2. Meet your horse

A short safety briefing and a quick lesson. We match each rider to a horse by weight and experience.

  3. Ride the trail to Long Bay

A short stretch of road, then a sandy path through the bush to the beach. No nose-to-tail riding, you get some freedom.

  4. Into the water

Our horses love the ocean. Your guides will take plenty of photos with your phone.

  5. Back at the barn

Give your horse a treat and a cuddle, and pick up a Provo Ponies t-shirt or hat.

It started with seven horses nobody else would save

Provo Ponies began in 2001 as a rescue, not a business.

Camille Slattery and a few friends bought seven neglected Paso Fino horses that had been shipped from the Dominican Republic to Providenciales. Once they were healthy again, they were far too young to retire, so they started earning their keep on the beach.

Later came the Belgian draft horses left to roam on Grand Turk after a cruise-ship carriage plan fell through, and ponies from South Caicos. Today about 30 horses and ponies live here, most of them rescued and rehabilitated.

Camille, a lifelong horsewoman, runs the barn with Caroline, a certified Natural Horsemanship instructor, and Kelly, a Pony Club and eventing rider.

Lessons for island kids. Saturdays are kept for our local lesson program: arena work, mounted games, trail rides and an annual horse show. It's the only place in the country to learn horsemanship.
